Frequently asked questions
Plain answers about holistic hypnotherapy with Nathan Norindr: in person in Doonan, Noosa Hinterland, on the Sunshine Coast, and online.
The work
What is holistic hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy uses a focused, relaxed state (the kind you pass through just before sleep, or when you're absorbed in a good book) to work with the patterns that run beneath conscious thought.
“Holistic” means the whole person is in the room. Alongside clinical hypnosis, Nathan uses strategic psychotherapy, NLP, parts work and nervous-system regulation, so change happens in the body as well as the mind.
Is Nathan a psychologist or psychotherapist?
No. Nathan is a clinical hypnotherapist. He holds the GICA Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis & Strategic Psychotherapy and is an NLP Practitioner, but he isn't a registered psychologist or psychotherapist.
The work complements medical and psychological care. It doesn't replace it.
I've tried talk therapy. How is this different?
Talk therapy is excellent for understanding why you feel a certain way. This work goes one layer deeper: hypnotherapy and somatic techniques work directly with the subconscious patterns running underneath. Understanding becomes felt change.
Does hypnotherapy actually work?
The evidence is growing. In 2026 the first meta-analysis of Ericksonian hypnotherapy (the approach Nathan trained in) pooled eight randomised trials and found a large effect, with results comparable to CBT where the two were compared directly.
The authors call it “initial empirical support”: eight trials is a small number, and no study can promise what will happen for you. Read what the research says, and what it doesn't.
Do I have to be spiritual?
Not at all. The foundation is clinical hypnosis, strategic psychotherapy and nervous-system work. Human Design, astrology and numerology are offered only if they resonate with you. How Nathan uses them, and why they aren't science.
Hypnosis
Will I lose control during hypnosis?
No. Hypnosis is a state of focused relaxation. You stay aware the whole time, able to speak, move and stop whenever you choose, and you can't be made to do anything against your values. It's much closer to the moment before sleep than to anything you've seen on a stage.
What if I can't be hypnotised?
Hypnosis isn't something done to you. It's a state you already move through every day, just beneath waking. Nathan's job is to guide you there gently and let your own mind do the rest. Most people are surprised by how natural it feels.
Do I have to believe in it?
No. Belief isn't required, only willingness. Scepticism is a perfectly good place to start. You just need to turn up, be honest, and try things before deciding they won't work.
Safety
Is this safe if I have past trauma?
Yes. The approach is trauma-aware and nervous-system informed. We move at your pace, build safety first and never force breakthroughs. The work stays within your window of capacity.
Can I do this alongside therapy or medication?
Yes. Many clients work with Nathan alongside a GP, psychologist or psychiatrist. Keep taking any medication as prescribed, and talk to your doctor before changing it.

Sessions, pricing & booking
What happens in the first session?
The Initial Session runs for 90 minutes. We talk through what's happening and what you want to change, and Nathan uses strategic questioning to find the pattern, belief or gap that's holding things in place. Then comes the hypnosis itself. You leave with a recording of it to listen to between sessions.
How many sessions will I need?
One issue usually takes six to eight sessions, which is why sessions come in packages of 6 or 8. Many people notice a shift in the first session, but consistency is what lets the change hold. We'll work out what makes sense for you in your Initial Session.
